Podcast: How To Support A Loved One Who Has Been Sexually Abused.

1–2 minutes

I did a podcast on supporting a partner/loved one who has been sexually abused.

We talk a lot about healing with victims and survivors of sexual assault, often encouraging them to have a reliable support system, but I wanted to address the support system for a change. How can you be part of a reliable support system? I get into it in this podcast. Couple of disclaimers (also stated on the podcast):

  • One size does not fit all, and while I made sure to cover as many concrete scenarios as I could, this is not an exhaustive exploration of trauma and should not be viewed as a checklist.
  • This is not a replacement for professional help and I am not a mental health professional, I am a person who has much experience with sexual abuse and PTSD.
  • In your attempt to help someone, always remember not to undermine the agency of the survivor. Your feelings and determination is not the expert opinion on what someone else wants and needs. Always check first.

Great! Done! Now you may listen.
